DEDICATION FESTIVAL

 

SUNDAY, 5 JULY, 10.00 am

 

At our Parish Eucharist, we will celebrate the consecration of the current church by the then Archbishop of York, Dr Donald Coggan, on the 2nd of July 1971.

 

The Parish itself came into being by Order of Council on the 5th of July 1968.

 

On the 1st of September 1968 a large wooden cross was erected on the site of the church, and building commenced with the cutting of the first sods on 7th of September 1969.

 

 

The foundation stone was laid by Dr Coggan on 20th May 1970.

 

The church, which incorporates treasures from the old St Maurice's Church, Monkgate, and the old chapel of St John's College, Lord Mayors Walk, was designed by George Pace and build by William Birch and Sons Ltd.   It cost £38,000 to build!
